The first person I showed my artwork too (after my husband) was Terry Tempest Williams, the extraordinary

writer, poet, and environmentalist. I've worked with Terry on conservation-- particularly the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Her fluency with evocative language and deep immersion in the arts and humanity felt like the right first audience. She responded to my work with such understanding-- and it gave me confidence.

The following day, she told me she had a dream about the figures-- and she said she had a word for me: Emissaries. And that is what they are called.
